I think that this is a really important resource, but as an African American woman, I can’t help but notice the lack of representation of girls of color. Black women have been historically shut out of feminisms; I hope that this site won’t continue that trend.

    Hi Jennifer -
Thank you for your compliments. The lack of representation of girls of color in this specific blog post is reflective of the community and who sent in photos. It is not by design nor intent. I have used African-American, Asian, and Hispanic children in my marketing. I have used red heads, girls with glasses, a little girl with Downs Syndrome…I’ve tried to be as diverse as my medium-sized Midwestern town will allow me. If you go to my website and look at my designs (www.pigtailpals.com), you will see diversity reflected in my artwork.

But I have been a well-known resource for parents on this topic online for two and a half years….where are the African American parents? Why are they not coming together here with us….and/or why am I not finding them? I have supported several groups and events specific to empowering African American girls. I have guest posted on blogs written by African American women…..I would like them to be a part of this community, and if you have any suggestions on how I can do that, please email me at info@pigtailpals.com.
